WINTER in AROSA LENZERHEIDE
Churwalden at 1200m is situated on The Northernmost section of The AROSA LENZERHEIDE Ski resort. Five minutes drive up the hill lies Parpan, then Valbella and finally the village of Lenzerheide.
Located only 30 mins drive from Chur and the main A13 motorway Lenzerheide can be reached within an hour and 45 mins from Zurich & Friedrichshafen airports by road or alternatively by train & bus connection from Zurich, via Chur.
Arosa Lenzerheide is the biggest ski area in Graubünden. Since 2014 the two resorts have been linked by the 1.7km long Urden Gondola lift. This sunny, snow sure, paradise offers 225 kilometres of pistes. More than 40 state-of-the-art lifts allow you to switch from one side of the valley to the other in no time. Enjoy the great variety of ski runs or relax in the cosy mountain restaurants. The glittering, snowy landscape between white forests and frozen lakes invites you to spend time here, whether skiing, snowboarding, winter hiking, cross-country skiing, tobogganing or just taking a break from everyday life in the variety of local spas and wellness facilities.
The ski area is mainly situated on the East & West facing slopes above the Lenzerheide plateau & beautiful alpine lake. As you enter the resort from the North the Rothorn towers high to your left at 2900m. The Rothorn hosts a variety of well-groomed pistes including the FIS Men’s World Cup Ski race on the Heimberg/Parpan section and is the place to be to enjoy the afternoon & evening sun.
It is also home to some of the regions best & most challenging Offpiste & Freeriding areas. Guests can still find fresh untracked lines days after the last snowfall.
The Safari Tour is a must for experienced skiers & snowboarders that also take4s in the small resort of Tschiertschen. However as The Tour is all off the marked pistes hiring a local guide is recommended as well as taking the full safety equipment.
Opposite The Rothorn lie the East facing slopes of Scalottas & The Staetzerhorn which offer a good variety of pistes that zig zag along its flanks with some great runs through the forests. The Staetzerhorn black run is mighty & The Staetz also offers floodlit skiing on Friday nights. Scalottas hosts the FIS Women’s World Cup downhill ski races & a quality restaurant on its summit.
Summer in The Lenzerheide Region
Over the last 5 – 6 years, Lenzerheide has poured an increasing amount of money into its Mountain Bike facilities with a state of the sport downhill area under The Rothorn 1 lift as well as hosting the annual MTBike World Cup races and every few years The World Championship event.
The ski lifts are nearly all capable of transporting Mountainbikes and the Summer Lift pass options also include Arosa and Bikers favourite Brambruesch above Chur. A special App shows all the marked Cross Country Trails and Downhill runs.
For Families, the Lenzerheide lake is the perfect place to spend Summer days with the chance to swim, paddle board, wind surf or sail. And great hiking with stunning views all around is recommended from May through to late Autumn.
